Dip Variants offered on PlayDiplomacy.com
All Variants (except for the Short-handed variant, where you can play with less than seven players - see here) are PREMIUM only.
Anonymous (Anon)
This variant is one where you do not know who you are playing against.
Gunboat Diplomacy
There is no communication at all in this game - no messages and no Public Press are allowed. It's ALL about tactics. You just have to hope your allies can predict what you want to do, and that your enemies can't!
Public Press Only (PPO)
In this game the only communications you can use are via the Public Press box. This means that, to communicate with your neighbours you will be telling everyone what you want to do. Tricky!
Chaos
In this variant your units are scattered across the board at the start of the game, rather than the regular positions on the board. You need to communicate especially well here!
Build Anywhere
In this variant, you can build new units in any vacant supply centre you control, not just your starting supply centres. More flexible, but you have to watch out for where your opponents can build. Can be played in association with Anon, Gunboat, PPO or Chaos variants, as well as standard.
Age of Empires (AoE)
This is a Build Anywhere variant. However, in this one, you start with one unit only situated in your power's capitol territory. Can you build an empire from such a small start? Can be played in association with Anon, Gunboat, PPO or Chaos variants, as well as standard.
Winter 1900
This game starts BEFORE the Spring 1901 date. In this variant you first build your units and you can decide which units you build where. Watch out for a fleet on St Petersburg's North Coast. Can be played in association with Anon, Gunboat, PPO or Chaos variants, as well as standard.
Fleet Rome
A slight change to this game. In the standard game, Italy starts with an army in Rome. Here, though, the army is exchanged for a fleet, giving Italy a chance to dominate the Mediterranean waters early on. Can be played in association with Anon, Gunboat, PPO or Chaos variants, as well as standard.
Fog of War (FoW)
In this variant, you are limited to what you can see on the map. You can only see the spaces on the board that are next to spaces your units are in. You need to rely upon what people tell you.
This variant can be used with any other variant on site.

Stuff Happens
Adding that little bit of randomness to your games. In this variant, just about anything can happen, probably when you least expect it to.
